Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Controller to lead enterprise accounting, payroll, and accounts payable functions for a diversified financial services and mortgage servicing organization.
This senior leadership position is responsible for ensuring timely month-end close, accurate financial reporting, strong internal controls, and compliance with U.S. GAAP and applicable regulatory requirements. The Senior Controller will serve as a key finance leader and the primary liaison with external auditors while identifying opportunities to strengthen accounting processes, controls, reporting, and operational efficiency.
The ideal candidate will bring significant mortgage servicing accounting experience, including Controller-level leadership, mortgage servicing rights (MSR) expertise, investor reporting knowledge, and experience operating within a large or complex financial services environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead enterprise accounting, payroll, and accounts payable functions across multiple entities.
- Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Maintain strong balance sheet reconciliation, intercompany accounting, and bank reconciliation processes.
- Oversee cash flow management, disbursement reviews, debt reporting, and lender covenant compliance.
- Serve as the primary accounting liaison with external financial audit firms and coordinate multiple audit activities.
- Partner with third-party valuation firms in the assessment and valuation of mortgage servicing rights (MSRs).
- Ensure appropriate accounting treatment for MSRs and other complex transactions in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
- Maintain knowledge of investor and agency reporting requirements, including requirements associated with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae.
- Research, document, and communicate management’s position regarding current and emerging U.S. GAAP accounting matters.
- Review contracts to determine asset ownership and ensure appropriate accounting and financial recognition.
- Establish and maintain internal controls designed to protect company assets and mitigate financial and fraud risks.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives across accounting processes, procedures, systems, and controls.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and internal management reporting.
- Partner with senior executives, auditors, regulators, and cross-functional leaders on accounting and financial matters.
- Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies and procedures.
- Lead, coach, mentor, and develop accounting professionals while building a high-performing and accountable team.
- Support accounting system and ERP optimization initiatives.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA or equivalent professional certification.
- 15+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 10+ years of senior-level accounting experience within mortgage servicing or closely related financial services segments, including Controller-level experience.
- Significant hands-on knowledge of mortgage servicing accounting and mortgage servicing rights (MSRs).
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and complex financial reporting requirements.
- Experience with investor reporting requirements associated with Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and/or Ginnie Mae.
- Demonstrated experience managing external financial audits, internal controls, and regulatory compliance.
- Previous experience managing and developing accounting teams.
- Strong understanding of enterprise accounting operations, cash flow, cost structures, and financial resource planning.
- Experience working with mortgage servicing platforms and enterprise ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or comparable platforms.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Strong financial analysis, reporting, and executive-level communication capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex accounting and financial matters to senior stakeholders.

Ideal Candidate Profile
The strongest candidates will have held senior accounting leadership or Controller positions within a large mortgage servicer, non-bank mortgage organization, institutional mortgage platform, or similarly complex financial services organization.
Candidates should have substantial direct experience with mortgage servicing rather than primarily mortgage origination. Experience gained primarily within small community banks or small mortgage organizations may not provide the scale and complexity required for this position.

Candidates must be able to work in a hybrid capacity from one of the following locations:

- Dallas, Texas
- Rosemont, Illinois
