Position Overview
We are seeking an accomplished General Manager, North America to lead U.S. sales strategy, market expansion, channel development, and commercial growth for an established international building materials manufacturer.
This is a senior leadership opportunity for a proven building materials executive who combines strategic leadership with hands-on business development. The General Manager will be responsible for expanding national market penetration, developing new customers and sales channels, strengthening key distribution and retail relationships, and growing the architectural and specification business.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience within the North American building materials industry and a demonstrated ability to build markets, lead sales organizations, and deliver measurable revenue growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive U.S. sales and market-growth strategy.
- Expand national market presence and identify new geographic and customer opportunities.
- Develop new customers and establish new revenue-producing sales channels.
- Build and strengthen relationships with two-step distributors.
- Develop and manage relationships within major home-improvement and retail channels.
- Expand the architectural, designer, and specification-driven sales channel.
- Develop relationships with architects, designers, builders, contractors, and other industry decision-makers.
- Identify and pursue large commercial and specification-driven project opportunities.
- Lead and develop the U.S. sales organization.
- Establish sales objectives, performance expectations, and accountability measures.
- Monitor competitive activity, market trends, and customer requirements.
- Provide market feedback to support product development and optimization.
- Identify opportunities to introduce and grow new product categories.
- Develop strategic partnerships that increase market penetration and brand visibility.
- Provide executive leadership with regular updates on sales performance, market development, and growth initiatives.
- Serve as a senior representative of the organization throughout the North American market.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- 10+ years of experience in the North American building materials industry.
- Significant sales leadership and business development experience.
- Demonstrated success developing new customers and opening new sales channels.
- Strong experience working with building materials distributors and two-step distribution networks.
- Experience selling through or managing relationships with major home-improvement or Big Box retail channels.
- Proven experience leading and developing sales teams.
- Experience working within architectural, designer, builder, or specification-driven channels.
- Established relationships within relevant building and design industry networks.
- Demonstrated record of achieving measurable revenue and market-share growth.
- Strong negotiation, strategic planning, relationship management, and executive communication skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel approximately 50%.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree in Engineering, Materials Science, Business, or a related field.
- Experience with composite decking, wall panels, siding, cladding, PVC/vinyl, cement fiber, or related exterior building products.
- National sales leadership experience.
- Experience building or managing large distributor networks.
- Direct experience developing programs with major home-improvement retailers.
- Experience securing large architectural or specification-driven projects.
- Strong network of architects, designers, builders, distributors, and other building-industry decision-makers.
- Entrepreneurial, performance-oriented leadership style.
- Proven ability to operate effectively in a hands-on, growth-focused environment.
