Weld Engineer

Position Overview

We are seeking a Weld Engineer to support the development, optimization, and execution of welding processes for complex metal fabrications. This role combines hands-on welding expertise with engineering responsibilities, including process development, fixture design, and quality oversight.

The ideal candidate is comfortable working both on the production floor and in a design/engineering capacity, and thrives in an environment that requires independence, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, qualify, and document welding procedures (WPS/PQR) for a variety of materials, including stainless steel
  • Establish and maintain welding standards, including pre- and post-weld heat treatment requirements

  • Design and implement welding fixtures and tooling to support production efficiency and repeatability

  • Evaluate and improve existing welding processes to enhance quality, throughput, and cost efficiency

  • Support production teams with hands-on troubleshooting of welding and fabrication challenges

  • Oversee weld inspection activities and ensure compliance with applicable codes and standards

  • Collaborate with quality teams to maintain compliance with ISO 9000 or similar quality systems

  • Partner with supply chain to identify and qualify vendors for welding consumables and outsourced weldments

  • Stay current on new welding technologies and recommend improvements where applicable

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Welding Engineering, or a related field

    OR equivalent hands-on experience (7–12+ years) in welding and fabrication

  • Hands-on welding experience, including stainless steel applications

  • Experience developing or supporting welding procedures (WPS/PQR)

  • Familiarity with weld inspection standards; AWS CWI or equivalent certification preferred (Level II or similar accepted)

  • Working knowledge of quality systems such as ISO 9000, ASME, or AWS codes

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD tools such as SolidWorks; familiarity with AutoCAD 2D is a plus

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in industrial equipment, pressure vessels, piping systems, or heavy fabrication

  • Background in fixture or tooling design for welding applications

  • Experience supporting both engineering and production teams in a manufacturing environment

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Hands-on role with a mix of shop floor and office-based work

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

  • Minimal travel required

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing, walking, and use of tools or machinery

  • Occasional lifting (up to 50 lbs) and carrying (up to 25 lbs)

  • Repetitive hand and wrist motion associated with equipment use

  • Occasional bending, climbing, and manual manipulation tasks
