Position Overview
An established engineering and automation organization is seeking a Senior DeltaV Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and management of large-scale capital automation projects within the Life Sciences industry.
This role requires deep expertise in Emerson DeltaV systems and a strong technical background in delivering cGMP-compliant automation solutions. The ideal candidate has demonstrated experience managing complete project life cycles, ensuring regulatory compliance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support biopharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the design and implementation of DeltaV control systems for complex Life Sciences capital projects
Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and technical resources to ensure successful delivery
Design system architecture and control strategies to enhance manufacturing efficiency
Develop batch sequencing, phase logic, and recipe structures in alignment with ISA-88 standards
Create high-performance HMIs using DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate in accordance with ISA-101 guidelines
Apply class-based configuration methodologies to ensure scalable and standardized system design
Develop electrical designs including power distribution, panel layouts, and grounding strategies
Specify and procure instrumentation and automation hardware
Design and implement industrial networking solutions including Ethernet/IP, Modbus TCP/IP, Profibus, Foundation Fieldbus, and OPC UA
Integrate third-party equipment with DeltaV systems
Define computing infrastructure requirements including server architecture, virtualization, cybersecurity, and redundancy planning
Plan and manage DeltaV system licensing to ensure scalable and cost-effective implementation
Oversee the full project lifecycle from requirements gathering through commissioning and validation
Develop and execute Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) protocols
Ensure compliance with cGMP, GAMP5, and 21 CFR Part 11 regulations
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers
Coordinate with clients, stakeholders, and regulatory representatives
Troubleshoot complex automation challenges and drive continuous system improvements
Support on-site commissioning activities as required
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Control Systems Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline
15+ years of automation and control systems engineering experience
Extensive hands-on experience with Emerson DeltaV system design and project execution
Proven experience delivering automation solutions in regulated Life Sciences environments
Strong expertise in ISA-88 batch control implementation
Proficiency in DeltaV Live and DeltaV Operate
Deep understanding of ISA-101 HMI design principles
Strong knowledge of cGMP, GAMP5, and 21 CFR Part 11 compliance requirements
Experience with industrial communication protocols including HART, Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus, Modbus TCP/IP, Ethernet/IP, OPC UA, and IO-Link
Experience designing electrical components including MCCs, VFDs, control panels, and power distribution systems
Knowledge of server infrastructure and virtualization for DeltaV deployments
Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with additional DCS/SCADA platforms such as Rockwell Automation, Ignition, or Siemens PCS7
Experience with historian integration and alarm management strategies
OEM system integration experience
Work Environment
Office-based engineering environment with frequent use of industrial control systems and engineering tools
Occasional work in production facilities during commissioning activities
May require weekend, holiday, nightshift, or extended hours during project milestones
