Director of Facilities Operations

Overview

We are seeking a seasoned Director of Facilities Operations to lead all aspects of hard and soft services for a highly regulated life sciences site. This role requires a strategic leader capable of managing both self-performed and subcontracted services, ensuring compliance, operational excellence, and financial discipline.

The ideal candidate brings proven experience in facilities management within life sciences, healthcare, or other complex corporate environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage all facility operations to deliver exceptional service and ensure a safe, efficient, and compliant environment.

  • Oversee maintenance, asset management, energy efficiency, and EHS programs across site operations.

  • Manage both self-performed and contracted services, including skilled trades, maintenance, grounds, and custodial operations.

  • Drive financial accountability through budgeting, forecasting, and cost control aligned with operational goals.

  • Oversee vendor performance, preventive maintenance scheduling, and CMMS utilization (SAP, Maximo, or similar).

  • Ensure compliance with GMP, OSHA, and other regulatory requirements while maintaining strong audit readiness.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with site leadership on long-term facilities planning, capital projects, and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Develop and lead a high-performing team focused on safety, reliability, and customer satisfaction.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive leadership experience in facilities management.

  • Proven success managing multi-service operations, including both self-delivered and vendor-contracted services.

  • Strong financial and operational acumen, including experience with budget development, cost management, and performance tracking.

  • Knowledge of GMP, EHS compliance, and building systems in regulated environments.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

  • Experience using CMMS platforms (SAP, Maximo, etc.).

Ideal Background

 

  • Experience supporting life sciences, healthcare, or pharmaceutical operations.

  • Strong understanding of technical systems (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, utilities, controls).

  • Demonstrated ability to lead through influence, build client trust, and deliver measurable results.
